Recreation

For those interested in physical activity but not looking for the competitiveness of varsity sports, campus recreation offers various levels of fitness opportunities to the Penn community.

Intramural Sports

From novice to serious athlete, over 4,500 Penn students participate in Penn’s individual and team intramural leagues like volleyball, kickball, softball, and ultimate frisbee. Our intramural sports leagues provide an opportunity for participants of all skill levels to engage in friendly competition with friends while making new ones along the way.

So, whether you’re looking to try out a new sport, or interested in playing one of your favorites at a low stakes level, our intramural sports offer the opportunity to participate in the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship among your classmates!

Club Sports

More than 1,500 Penn students participate in over 36 active club sports—from cricket, curling, or ping pong, to sailing and Tae Kwon Do.

Unlike varsity athletics, Sport Clubs are student run organizations led by our Quakers themselves! Each club is formed, developed, governed, and administered by the student membership of that club and the Department of Campus Recreation and the Sport Club Council.  And if you don’t see a sports club you’re interested in, there’s plenty of opportunities to create your own!

Individual and Group Exercise

Penn’s world-class recreational facilities, including an Oympic-sized pool, residential gyms, a 40-foot climbing wall and Penn Park’s 24 acres of open space and athletic fields, serve students committed to an active lifestyle.

And for those interested in group fitness classes within our facilities, offerings include yoga, Pilates, Zumba, sport clubs, intramurals, aquatic programming, rock climbing, and much more. Believe us when we say there’s plenty of opportunities to work towards your fitness goals throughout campus while connecting with others or even exploring a new interest!
