Nursing students in a lab

School of Nursing

As a Nursing student, your academic experience will combine clinical experiences with an exceptional liberal arts and sciences foundation. Our students and graduates become leaders who shape the future of health care practice, policy, and research.

The School of Nursing partners with top-ranked teaching hospitals and clinical agencies to fulfill our requirement of three years of clinical experience. As a nursing student, you will learn from and be mentored by the nation’s top nurse educators and researchers as you delve into the science of nursing through real life experience.

Our flexible curriculum ensures that all nursing students take courses in Penn’s other schools, such as the unique dual-degree Nursing and Health Care Management program at Wharton.

After completing a Bachelor of Nursing (BSN), many nursing students pursue one of Penn Nursing School's master's degree programs. You may choose this option as early as your junior year.

In applicants to the School of Nursing, we would like to see:

  • A commitment to patient care and the future of healthcare delivery
  • A desire to explore issues in health care and research
  • A strong preparation in the sciences, particularly in chemistry
