Kayvon Asemani
Entrepreneurship
Kayvon is a musician, artist, fashion designer, community builder, and social advocate. Kayvon became interested in music while growing up in Baltimore, and he began to write his own music at five years old. At the age of nine, Kayvon tragically lost his mother and soon after began attending the Milton Hershey School, a private boarding school for kids in need in central Pennsylvania. Continuing to grow and develop his music, Kayvon decided to attend Penn, and specifically Wharton to focus on business.
Now in his senior year at Penn, he is the Founder and CEO of Kayvon Enterprises, where he manages multiple brands, including Kayvon Music and Kayvon Fashion. Kayvon Music is his personal artistry, and he has established a presence as a hip-hop artist performing all over the country. Kayvon Fashion is his clothing line, which includes clothing with his Kayvon Music logo, which was designed by a fellow Penn student. With a concentration in Management, Kayvon is learning the skills necessary to run his businesses.
Creative & Performing Arts
While at Penn, Kayvon continues to feed his creative side by writing music, shooting music videos, and working with film students at both Penn and Drexel. He is committed to staying true to the culture of hip-hop while incorporating his own personal story, which he hopes resonates among many different kinds of people. In the summer of 2016, Kayvon was invited to perform at the United Nations as part of the International Young Leaders Assembly. With an audience from more than 190 countries, Kayvon performed three original songs, including Breakthrough, which is upbeat, energetic, and intended to bring people together. In 2017, he traveled across the U.S. on The Rayz Tour. He wants to convey a consistent message in his music that emphasizes human connection, regardless of background, to come together to make a positive impact on the world.
Social Impact
Kayvon has devoted his time and energy as a head teacher for the Financial Literacy Community Project, a student-run organization sponsored by the Wharton Management Department that teaches financial literacy in local schools. With the understanding that not all students have access to knowledge around financial literacy, Kayvon values this time working with students in West Philadelphia.
As a Civic Scholar, Kayvon is passionate about equal access to education. Civic Scholars connect civic engagement with academic work through social and public policy research and sustained involvement in community affairs. With his personal experiences and exposure to different levels of education, he is very interested in addressing systemic education inequality both domestically and globally.
Kayvon is also a member of the Turner Social Impact Society, which helps students become tomorrow’s social impact leaders. This selective group of undergraduates who all prioritize social impact have access to fellowship, funding, mentoring, events, and customized opportunities to continue to develop as the next change-makers in society.
Eric Furda, C’87 former Dean of Admissions at Penn and Dr. Sean Vereen, President of Steppingstone Scholars Inc. collaborated with Kayvon on a Coursera course called How to Apply to College, which empowers learners of all backgrounds to demystify the college search process.
